Ambassador & Viaticum
Asbury University's alumni magazine. I was one of two designers that were responsible for the creative direction and layout of Ambassador, Asbury University's alumni magazine, through six publications and Viaticum, a research journal through two publications. For each spread, I developed a concept based on the story brief. Once approved, I was responsible for working with photographers and working closely with the staff writer to fit content.
Ambassador alumni magazinE
This issue and lead article introduced Alumni to Asbury's new School of Business and it's namesake. I used the new logo, and the school seal and setting of the speaker in the photo, to make a strong layout.
The Highbridge Film Festival is easily the most dramatic event on campus each year. I wanted the colors and layout of this short piece to reflect that.
At the time this magazine was being published, the details and design for the capital campaign these people would steer had not yet been developed. This simple layout is clean and effective, utilizing University colors and traditional images.
Asbury and the Salvation Army have a strong relationship going back 100 years and were seeking to partner in new ways. This spread ran in the months leading up to the announcement of that new partnership. The banner graphic created here to celebrate the two institutions would later be used on mailers, banners, booklets and the web.
Arriving in the mail the week before Thanksgiving, this spread in the 2014 Fall edition of Ambassador was a fluff piece designed to increase Alumni engagement with the online Asbury community through a social media tie-in.
Viaticum Research Journal
The professor highlighted in this article conducts research into the genetic origins of syndromes that induce heart arrhythmias. The graphic visually tells the story before you even read the article.
This spread about math education uses a primary color palette found within the main photo. The tight tracking in the heading creates contact between the letterforms, echoing the title.
